Goff on Rugby Awards

Canada — Women

By Alex Goff

Most Valuable PlayerChristie Thompson. Oh you picked her last year. True, we did, but in a World Cup year where Canada solidified its place in the top four in the world, Thompson was a finisher for a side that really needed one. A leader even though she was out on the wing (like the American winner, Patty Jervey), she is an important part of the women's team and its future.

Honorable Mention: Moira Shiels for her leadership and goalkicking. Dawn Kleim, Kelly McCallum.

Back of the Year: Kelly McCallum. Filled in kicking goals, but mostly for organizing the backline, especially in defense.

Honorable Mention: Sherri Sparling

Forward of the Year: Dawn Kleim. A huge asset in hunting down and winning ball from the flank. A key part of Canada's game plan and had an excellent World Cup.

Honorable Mention: Kat Todd, Shiels.

Collegiate Player of the Year: Sommer Christie .

Team of the Year: Canada. They faltered near the end, but held off the upstarts Scotland beautifully.

Coach of the Year: Ric Suggit
