Canada Names Revised Women's Long List

February 7, 2005, Toronto, Ont. – Roxanne Butler, Manager of the National Senior Women’s team, has been busy planning events for the 2005 year and the lead up to the Women’s World Cup that will be held in Edmonton in 2006. Recently Butler met with senior Rugby Canada board members to discuss the preparation plans for the World Cup. The scheduled events that she has been working on include an East and West training camp and a return to the Canada Cup set for this year.

With off field planning taking place, players have also been busy either attending to fitness programs or to competing; in the West Coast Women’s Premier or overseas. Recent fitness scores for the long list named in October showed some real strengths but a real need for players to continue with fitness training.

Head Selector Matt Parrish and head coach, Neil Langevin have revised the list of players, which is categorized by naming six players for each position. The new list features eight new players on the list including U19 stalwart Jayne Cation, Marie-Eve Brindamour who is playing well in the West Coast Women’s league for SFU and fitness fanatic from New Brunswick, Genevieve Gay.

Players interested in being considered for the list are encouraged to contact Parrish and be prepared to submit fitness scores and video from recent matches. The next fitness testing date for the group of 90 will be March 12. After this date Parrish and Langevin will revise the list again and send out invites to that group of 90 to attend the camps. Roster spots for the Canada Cup, the Can-Am challenge and the fall tour will be derived from this list.
