April 1, 2009 - The ERugbyNews Women’s DI Top 25 has a major change as Penn State emerged from #5 to #1. This is actually not a surprise, as PSU’s trip to Europe stood them in good stead coming into the playoffs.
But we don’t move teams up (much) for losing games, so we kept them down until the meaningful games arrives. Navy drops to #4.
What to do about West Chester – so inconsistent they still defeated #9 Virginia last week. We keep them out but await the national playoffs. Meanwhile Virginia drops to #20. We know they have injuries, and a healthier team in three weeks will be a better team.
Coming in is North Carolina, another late-blooming team that shut out Clemson to secure the South title. It’s all a mixup in the Midwest. Is Grand Valley State the team that took UNI to overtime, or the team that lost to Iowa State? We’re still not sure …
