East Stroudsburg Concludes Camp
Tuesday Jul 28, 2009 in Grassroots Rugby Youth
East Stroudsburg, Pa. - In its eighth year, the East Stroudsburg Rugby Player Development Camp has been the premier co-educational rugby camp focused on improving athletes’ foundation and knowledge of the game. The camp continues to grow in size and was registered to capacity this year. The campers’ enthusiasm and eagerness to learn as well as the instructors’ inspiration and love of the game are instrumental in the camp’s success.
For the sixth year, the camp’s official sponsor, Rugby Imports, along with founder Bob Hoder, generously provided camper jerseys, t-shirts, and instructor kits. Through this sponsorship, they continue to show their commitment to developing youth and high school rugby. As a leading proponent of rugby in America, Bob believes in developing the game at all levels and has been involved in coaching education since 1974.
The campers and teams that attended hailed from over fifteen states including California, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia. The enthusiastic ruggers were divided into groups based on gender, age, and experience and then instructed by the highly trained staff, led by lead instructor, Richard Ashfield, on unit skills and position specific play. Listening and effective communication proved to be a valuable tool throughout camp, especially during the Sunday scrimmages where parents were impressed with what campers had learned in such a short time.
Instructors were delighted with the dedication and respectfulness of the campers and encouraged them to meet their potential. Written evaluations gave campers insight into their areas of strength and improvement. The campers were impressed with their instructors stating: “they created a fun learning atmosphere”, “shared lots of new information/drills”, and ”gave great feedback”. Campers also appreciated the one-on-one attention they received as one camper said, “the coaches were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.”
