April 28, 2009 – It’s been a good season for the Ferndale, Wash.-based Chuckanut age-grade programs as their U19, U16 and U14 programs have all done well.
The U19 team won their second-consecutive Pacific Coast Invitational. Their U16s made the semis of the British Columbia U16 league before bowing out to Vancouver Rowing Club 31-19. the Chuckanut U16s notched victories over Abbotsford, Meraloma, UBCOB Ravens and Richmond during the season.
And the Chuckanut U14s beat the Capilano Barbarians 30-7 to win
the BC U-14 Bowl Championship. Luke Portillo had four tries and Tyler
Morrison had two in the game.
“I cannot say enough about how this team came together at the end of the
season,” said U14 team manager Todd Vasay. “This team had players from six different school districts. Most of them did not even know each other at the beginning of the season. To see them celebrating as a team after their victory was outstanding and
great to be a part of.”
