SoCal HS Team Hosts Mexico U19s

Thursday night the Fallbrook high school varsity rugby team of Southern California hosted the Mexico U19 national team in a three-period friendly.
The game was a first for the Mexico age-grade program, and it went well for all concerned.
The two teams played three 30-minute periods, and in the first period it was a speedy and keyed-up Mexico team that ran out to a commanding 19-0 lead. Mexico started the second period with a try, also, to make it 26-0. But from there Fallbrook got organized and mounted a comeback.
“Our guys hadn’t played in about a month,” said Fallbrook coach Mike Majewski. “But theyjust assembled for the first time. There were a lot of similarities between the two teams, but we started to do better when we did more pick-and-jams from the forwards.”
That tactic opened up more space for Fallbrook’s backs, and with wing Taylor Bashara scoring four tries, Fallbrook clawed their way back to a 29-29 tie.
Mexico goes on to play Hacienda Heights on Saturday.
