March 10, 2008 - Sunday morning at 10:20 am Eastern Time Longwood University flyhalf Todd Miller passed away a week after sustaining a head injury in his team's game against VMI March 1.

Miller was the leading scorer for the unofficial DIII champions. He was taken to a hospital in Richmond following the injury and was in critical condition while his family and teammates rushed to his bedside.

Miller's condition did not improve during the week and it became apparent he would not wake up. A vigil was held for him March 5 at Longwood where the popular Miller, who was also an accomplished musician, received a flood of good wishes.

Miller's mother, Elie Miller, said in an open letter to teammates and friends Sunday:

"Thank you all so very much for your prayers, loving thoughts, shared memories and pictures ... they have helped me so much ... you have no idea. I have
felt your love surrounding me during this horrific week. I know Todd will live on in our hearts and memories forever.....and through the miracle of organ donations Todd may save the lives of as many as 7 people over the next 48 hours and impact the health of countless other people. Think of the miracle of that....his legacy and "his life" will live on."

A Longwood Rugby alumni dinner held this past week raised $2,000 for what could be the beginning of a scholarship in Miller's name. Miller will also receive his degree in Business Marketing posthumously, as decided in a unanimous vote from the Longwood business school faculty.
