May 30, 2009 – Beaumont jumped into the DIII club final in dramatic style, scoring a try right at the end of Saturday's semifinal game to eliminate Middlesex 32-25.

The two teams played a very tight game all the way through, and with time running out it was deadlocked 25-25. That was when the Southern California club blocked a kick in the Middlesex in-goal and fell on the ball for the winner.

“We generally play a real forwards-oriented game,” said one of Beaumont’s coaches, Rowdy Russell. “But we lost three forwards to injury early and had to rely on our backs, and they really stepped up.”

Beaumont, the first SoCal DIII team to make the national final, will face South Dakota-based Northern State Sunday in Glendale.
