Summit high school girls team weathered some nasty rain and a 7-0 deficit to take their first Colorado Youth Rugby girls league game of the season 84-7 over the Chatfield-Columbine SWARM

“I think we just had to focus a little harder,” sophomore Emmy Griffith told the local press. “At the beginning, we might have underestimated them. Then we got used to it and focused harder. I think we played well after that.”

Right Summit players scored tries and Alex Cooper netted three on the day.

But it may be Cooper’s last game for a while as she fell badly and is being evaluated for a possible head injury.

Head coach Karl Barth said he was thrilled with Cooper’s game.

The Tigers were missing two starters, including team captain and USA U20 player Bri Barto who was busy taking the ACT during game time Saturday.

Also winners in the first weekend of play were Chaparral, 27-0 over Fort Collins.
