May 4, 2009 - Most of the teams for the girls U19 national championships are set. Here’s what we know:
Divine Savior Holy Angels defeated Lakewood 22-8 in the Midwest final Sunday to take the #1 seed yet again.
DSHA, the defending champions, will play Summit. Summit won Colorado in the fall and didn’t have to play for the West title as no other teams chose to play. Summit are widely considered one of the top teams in the nation, and have a tough draw because in 2008 Colorado champs Fort Collins pulled out of the West playoffs due to travel costs. As a result the West winners Kansas City finished 8th.
Maryville won the South title last week, and will take on the MARFU champions. That final is yet to be played, but West Carroll
Sacramento beat Kent 24-10 in the Pacific Coast final to take the PCRFU seed. The Amazons, who finished second in 2008, will take on SoCal champs Fullerton, which won their championship last week on a drop goal 3-0.
And in the final bracket the Northeast champs Rutland (Vt.), who edged City Honors (Buffalo, NY) will play Midwest #2 Lakewood. Lakewood finished second in the Midwest and second in the nation in 2008.
