Girls Rugby Update

April 26, 2009 – Maryville won the South girls high school championships this weekend over Ravenwood.
Maryville got two tries from USA U20 player Candace Barley and two more from Sarah Smith, while young scrumhalf McKenzie Hawkins added another for the 34-5 victory. Catherine Eichhorn and Brennan Humphries added conversions.
Shannon Boone scored Ravenwood's only try.
Maryville defeated Hoke, NC in the semifinals 43, with six different players scoring tries – Brooke legate scored two.
Ravenwood defeated Oconee in their semi.
Elsewhere around girls rugby this weekend, Kent defended their Washington State title, defeating Harbour of Gig Harbor in the final. Harbour had upset Budd Bay in the semis 10-5, while Kent beat Chuckanut. Budd Bay went on to take 3rd.
NorCal champs and runners up Sacramento Amazons and Mother Lode played Colorado champions Summit this weekend at the Pacific Coast Invitational. Mother Lode eked a tight 13-10 victory over the visitors, and Sacramento downed Summit also.
In Southern California, the Fullerton Youth Rugby Lady Lions beat the Fallbrook Warriors 3-0 in the SoCal final. Fullerton’s only score came off a drop goal from fullback Alex Svensson.
