Charleston, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois women’s team shut out Grand Valley State Saturday thanks in part to two tries from Crystal Jones.

With the victory the Panthers improved to 2-0 on the season, while extending their program-high winning streak to 18 straight victories.

Coartney McKinney got the Panthers on the board in the fourth minute of the game with a penalty kick, and five minutes later freshman center Lauren Doyle ran in her third try of the season. McKinney’s conversion made it 10-0.

Both squads would continue to battle it out for field position, but the Panthers defense held. Ashley Jenkins fell on a loose ball to get EIU their second try and make it 15-0. The Jones scored her first to make it 20-0 at the break.

Jones scored off a nice Jenkins pass to give EIU the 25-point cushion before Narissa Ramirez scored. McKinney’s conversion made it 32-0 and that’s how it stayed.

Next up for EIU is their first league game in several years as they take on Iowa State.

Grand Valley State starts their league season against Michigan October 3.
