The San Diego Surfers rode the wave of a 37-14 defeat of Belmont Shore to take sole possession of first place in the women’s DI West Coast league.

Amanda Wilson scored three tries for the Surfers in the win, while Casey Fields added two. That moved San Diego to 4-0, while Belmont Shore dropped to 3-1.

Shore in fact dropped all the way to fourth as the Seattle Breakers moved to 3-1 with a 68-0 shutout of Budd Bay. Rosemary Baker, Milly Knapp and Caitlin Rosdahl all scored doubles for the Breakers.

Seattle is now second, and the Tempe (formerly Scottsdale) club is third after edging Nor Cal 20-17 and defeating Sacramento 27-0.

Next week Seattle hosts San Diego and the 2-2 San Francisco Fog in a double-game weekend. They can move into first with a sweep. San Diego also takes on Budd Bay on Sunday and could establish a commanding lead if they win both.

Belmont Shore and Tempe clash on Sunday and a week later Shore plays in Seattle, and wins in those games could move them back into contention for first.
