USA U20 Women Prepare for Wales
Wednesday Jul 8, 2009 in Women National Teams

Boulder, Colo. - The USA Under-20 Women’s National Team announced selections for its opening game of the Under-20 Nations Cup, which will be against the Wales U-20 Women on Thursday, July 9 at Brunel University in Uxbridge, England.
The team includes eight players who played in last year’s U.S. victory over the South Africa Under-20s.
“Practices have been incredibly productive” said head coach Bryn Chivers. “We have a core of players in their third or fourth year in the program and they help the new players adjust quickly to what we are trying to achieve. It also helped that we were able to get the squad together at the Under-23 National All-Star Championships three weeks ago and this team could be the best prepared of any squad we’ve fielded to date.”
The USA plays games against Wales, England and Canada in the span of a week and they have never recorded a win against any of those three teams in the tournament.
Although the team is prepared, Chivers is realistic about the team’s prospects saying, “We beat the Mpumalanga, South Africa Under-20s, Southern California’s U-23s and the West U-23s in our last few games, but keeping this win streak alive will mean pulling off a win against a team we have never beaten. But, there’s always a first time for everything.”
