New Eng College DII Report
Sunday Sep 20, 2009 in Amateur Competitions Division II Colleges
In a high-paced match Bentley defeated University of New Hampshire 28-24 in a men’s DII college clash.
UNH started quickly with a well-worked try in the corner within two minutes. Bentley answered ten minutes later, pounding the ball up the middle. Prop Doug Lajoie did the honors to tie it 5-5. Lock Brian Bromel hit two key penalties for Bentley to give his side the 11-5 halftime lead.
In the second-half Lajorie lunged over for his second and Ryan Ciccarelli scored two highlight-reel tries to give Bentley a 28-12 lead with 26 minutes to go.
UNH came back, using their kicking game to get the ball behind the Bentley defense. But with the score 28-24 and UNH attacking once more, Bentley captain Mike Lyons made the big tackle to end the game.
"Great to see the boys get things right a tough loss the week before," said coach Josh Smith.
