The United States Air Force Academy rebounded from their loss at Utah to beat New Mexico 46-18 in their opening West RFU West league match.

The game was much closer than the score indicated, as Air Force really didn’t run away with it under the final 15-20 minutes.

“It was really tight at half and we were able to separate ourselves from them eventually,” said Air Force coach Andy McQuade. “We got it together. But UNM defended quite well. That threw us off and some of our more reliable players were trying to do too much - trying to be stars on the pitch rather than be part of a unit.”

Once they sorted it out, the Zoomies rambled on, led in part by Domingo Astiaran, Anthony Ruize and freshman Trevor Wade. That puts Air Force at 1-0 in league play while UNM is a somewhat hard-luck 0-2. Air Force takes on Navy in Annapolis, Md.
