Roses, Doylestown Winners in MARFU DII
Sunday Sep 20, 2009 in Amateur Competitions Division II Clubs
The York/Lancaster Roses got back on the winning track on Saturday with a 40-15 victory over Reading RFC Saturday in Mid-Atlantic DII.
Trailing 15-14 at halftime, the Roses finally found space on a tight field and holes in the Reading defense. Kyle McAllister scored two tries while Kevin Laporte had 10 points, including two drop goals.
The Roses finally return to their home pitch in Centerville next week for the huge match-up against rivals Brandywine.
Meanwhile Doylestown ruined the debut of Wilmington’s new home pitch with a 29-22 away victory.
The game was a fast-moving and hotly contested, and it wasn’t until the closing minutes of the first half that Doylestown took the lead. Some poor tackling left Wilmington looking down the business end of a 19-5 deficit.
Wilmington came back to outscore Doylestown 17-10 in the second half but the damage had been done.
"We had a let down at the end of the first half and missed a few scoring opportunities along the way" said Wilmington Coach Bob Weir. "We are not sure if the better team won on Saturday but we respect Doylestown and look forward to meeting them again in the playoffs."
DII MARFU Scores:
