Maryland remains on top of the Mid-Atlantic DI league after a tough 16-13 victory over Pittsburgh.

As predicted, the 0-2 Harlequins challenged the Exiles, but ultimately went down in a tough road game. Maryland now moves to 3-0.

Also undefeated in the league are Charlotte, which downed a young and rebuilding Washington side 71-7, Media, which moved to 2-0 after beating NOVA 37-15, and Baltimore-Chesapeake (pictured above), which defeated Raleigh 26-5 and are also 2-0.

Dan Wright and Craig Blinke scored early for Baltimore, but Raleigh rallied and made it 12-5. A missed penalty would have brought the Vipers closer. Then in the last five minutes Trevor Beals and John Drury scored to secure Baltimore’s win and give them the bonus point.

“Raleigh played very tough and they had us on the ropes towards the middle of the second half,” said Baltimore captain Will Knipscher. “We pretty much dominated possession and field position in the first half but in the second half they had their way with us.”

Still Baltimore emerged victorious. However Knipsher pointed to the too-numerous penalties, yellow cards, and over 30 knock-ons as problems to fix.

“Mental mistakes are a huge issue for us right now,” he said.

For Media, Jesse Roberts was excellent at flyhalf, setting the tone defensively and controlling the tempo of the game. Media was able to corral the dynamic NOVA backline.

“The story of the game was the forwards,” said Media coach Ken Smith. “Media’s forwards were very aggressive and they really stepped up their effort. I am real happy with the result.”

With the Norfolk v. Schuylkill result still to come, here is the latest MARFU standings:
