NYAC defeated Old Blue 37-22 Saturday in their Stewart Shield fall match in New York.

Tim Ryland scored two tries for Winged Foot, while Andrew Lindsey, Mike Petri, Conor Coyne, Jamie Wood and Andrew King all touched down once. Jamie Goode added one conversion.

Old Blue got two tries from Elliott Rechtin and two from Will Brazier, with Dom Wareing kicking just the one conversion.

“It was fun to play in but maybe not pretty to watch,” said NYAC’s Troy Bartley. “There were just a lot of broken tackles and a lot of disjointed rugby. But with the Spring Super League season only seven games, we need to get as many games as we can in the fall. It’s hard to catch up to the West Coast teams who have an easier time getting a preseason going, so we’re trying to do whatever we can to get games in.”

Hall singled out St. Mary’s grad Conor Coyne for his play at hooker.

“He’s a great runner with the ball and our lineouts and scrums were very solid,” Bartley said.
