Glendale, Colo. – The South men’s collegiate all-star team is in the final of Tier B of the National Collegiate All-Star Championships after handing the Northeast a 58-22 defeat.
Both teams battled hard at the breakdown, but the South was simply a smoother operation, and their continuity was such that once they strung three or four phases together, they often scored.
“On the cons, we were very undisciplined around the breakdown,” said South coach Vince Atkinson. “Our guys got a lot of penalties around the rucks, and deservedly so. I was impressed with the Northeast. They were far more disciplined in the rucks and played smart.”
What worked for the South was playing as a complete unit.
“The camp we had at Life [University] really helped in terms of bridging the gap between the forwards and the backs,” said Atkinson. “We need to short up our tackling, but offensively we did a good job.”
