Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei – Revenge came for the USA 7s team, as they were able to turn the tables on Chinese Taipei and beat the World Games hosts 21-19 and garner 5th place at the International Olympic Committee event.

Jone Naqica was good on all three conversions, and he needed to be to stay ahead of Chinese Taipei, as both sides scored three tries.

Blaine Scully, Ata Maloifa and Jason Pye all scored tries to give the USA the victory. Wang Ju-An, Wang Kuo-feng and Chu Chih-Wei all scored for the hosts. Chu converted two, but couldn’t get that all-important third kick.

The big performers of the tournament were Portugal, which had earned an invitation as a core team for the 2009-2010 IRB World Series, and followed that up with a silver medal at the World Games.

Fiji won gold, beating Portugal 43-10 in the final. Ratuemosi Vucago and Nasoni Rokobiau both scored two tries in the final.

South Africa took bronze, 17-0 over Argentina.
