Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei – The USA 7s team finally got a win and will play off for 5th place later Saturday at the World Games.

The Eagles, seeded 4th in their pool after an 0-3 Friday, played an in-form Argentina side in the quarterfinals.

A much improved performance saw the USA push the Pumas, but ultimately the Americans lost 19-12. Blaine Scully and Colin Hawley scored tries and Jone Naqica kicked one conversion, but tries from Francisco Merello, Ariel Bruzzone and Benjamin Urdapilleta, with Urdapilleta adding two conversions, took Argentina into the semis.

Fans will remember Urdapilleta as the goalkicking center for the Argentina Jaguars in the Churchill Cup.

On to the consolation semis, where the USA took on Japan. It was a close-run thing, but the USA prevailed 29-24. Hawley was a scorer twice more, while Cory Blair, Ata Malifa and Scully all touched down once. Malifa added two conversions as the USA prevailed despite a yellow card to Naqica.

They take on Chinese Taipei, 17-12 winners over Hong Kong. This is a chance for the USA to garner revenge for their 17-12 loss to the hosts on Friday.
