USA captain Todd Clever started for the Xerox Lions in Currie Cup action Friday night, and helped his side to a 31-13 defeat of the Leopards.

Clever was active throughout the 80 minutes of the match, and set up the team’s third try as he slotted in the backline, knocked a defender flat on his backside, and then slipped the pass to Dusty Noble who scored in the corner.

Clever also made several important tackles, and was cautioned for lifting a player’s leg in the ruck.

Overall, though, he was one of the better Lions players on the day in a sloppy game. The win puts the Lions at 5-5, good for 26 points and 6th place, although they could be passed by the Cheetahs this weekend.
