Overseas Update: Visa Troubles in Leeds

USA prop Mike MacDonald is one of four players who have not suited up for Leeds Carnegie yet in the Guinness Premiership season. MacDonald, Juan Gomez, Fosi Pala'amo and Henry Fa'afili have all been unable to join the club due to visa application red tape.
Director of rugby Andy Key said he is hoping to have the quartet at Headingley in time for the start of the new season.
"The situation certainly is not ideal but we realize that we are not the only people affected by the new systems that have been put in place which are causing delays to the application process,” Key said.
In other action among Americans overseas, Todd Clever got about five minutes during the Lions 30-19 loss to the Sharks in the Currie Cup in South Africa.
Also in South Africa, for a preseason trip, was Guinness Premiership team Saracens, with Hayden Smith and Chris Wyles.
“We had a great tour,” said Smith. “It was centered more around team bonding than training.”
In Australia, lock Brian Doyle’s Sydney University team won the Sydney premier league with a 16-12 win over Eastern Suburbs.
Mike Hercus helped Sunshine Coast defeat Wests 19-7 with three penalty kicks.
Volney Rouse and his Linwood club in New Zealand’s Chirstchurch league lost 19-3 to Christchurch in the league final.
